How to Pick Your Mixologist (Beyond the Instagram Grid)

How to Pick Your Mixologist (Beyond the Instagram Grid)

Most mixologists can make a beautiful drink for a single guest. Far fewer can run a smooth bar for 180 people across a four-hour reception. Here's how to tell them apart.

Ask about staffing ratios. A pro will quote you 1 mixologist per ~60 guests for an open bar, plus a barback for events over 100. If they don't bring it up unprompted, that's information.

Ask about insurance and licensing. General liability and liquor liability are non-negotiable in Florida. Reputable companies share certificates without flinching.

Ask about the boring stuff. Power, water access, glassware, ice, garnish prep, trash plan, end-of-night breakdown. The companies who answer these questions calmly are the ones who actually do this for a living.

Ask about the menu conversation. Your mixologist should ask you about your guests — not just hand you a generic package. That conversation is where great events are quietly designed.
